How our content is reviewed
Every health page on this site is reviewed by Dr. Sam Madeira, NMD before it’s published. Here’s how pages are written, checked and kept accurate.
Who writes and reviews our content
Articles and health pages are written by or for Dr. Sam Madeira, NMD, a naturopathic physician licensed in Arizona, Montana and Washington. Some pages are drafted with AI writing assistance. Dr. Madeira reviews every health page before it’s published and decides what it says.
Pages that he has medically reviewed say “Medically reviewed by Dr. Sam Madeira, NMD.” Articles say “By Dr. Sam Madeira, NMD.” Each shows the date it was last updated, and we change that date only when the page has actually been reviewed again.
How we choose sources
- We look first to naturopathic, integrative, functional, nutritional and botanical medicine research and journals, alongside conventional research where it helps.
- For research on people, we prefer studies with at least 100 participants published in the past 10 years, plus clinical guidelines. When we cite older or smaller research, it’s because nothing newer answers the question.
- Lab and animal studies can help explain how an herb or nutrient may work. When we use them, we say so, and we never present them as proof that something works in people.
- For safety facts, such as emergency warnings and exposure limits, we use government health agencies.
- Pages that cite research list numbered sources at the bottom, so you can read them yourself.
What we won’t do
- Promise results or cures. Everyone’s health is different, and results vary.
- Replace your own doctor. Our pages are general education, not medical advice, and reading them doesn’t create a doctor–patient relationship.
- Hide a financial interest. If Dr. Madeira could earn money from something a page mentions, the page says so next to it, and any such link is marked as sponsored.
- Edit patient reviews. Review quotes are word for word, with “…” marking any part left out. Patient stories are published only with the patient’s written permission.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, an outdated fact or a broken source, please tell us through the contact page. Include the page’s address and what looks wrong. Dr. Madeira reviews every report, and if a page needs correcting, we fix it and update its date. Please don’t include personal health details in your message.
